How does outdoor therapy work?
Walk and talk therapy combines the benefits of traditional counselling with the therapeutic power of nature. Walking side-by-side can feel less intense than face-to-face sessions, allowing for a more natural flow of conversation. The natural environment often helps to reduce stress and promote a sense of calm.
Do you offer online or phone therapy?
Yes, in addition to walk and talk therapy, I also offer online and phone counselling sessions for those who prefer this format or when outdoor sessions are not feasible. Please contact me to discuss your preferences.
Do I need to be physically fit for walk and talk therapy?
What should I wear for outdoor therapy?
What if the weather is bad?
We monitor weather forecasts closely. In cases of unsuitable weather (heavy rain, strong winds, or extreme temperatures), we can reschedule, or if you prefer, we can discuss alternative arrangements such as an online or phone session.
I am newly postpartum, can i bring my baby?
Yes! If you are struggling to find support or are not ready to be without baby, please feel free to bring them, either baby wearing or in a pram
Is my privacy safe outdoors?
Privacy is paramount. We choose discreet routes and locations where we are unlikely to be overheard or interrupted. Our conversations remain confidential, just as they would in an indoor setting. If we were to encounter someone closely, we would speak softly or pause until they or we move further away.
What if I get emotional outdoors?
What happens if I bump into someone I know during a session?
We will discuss a plan for how to handle such situations during our initial consultation to ensure your comfort and confidentiality are maintained. Typically, a discreet nod or a brief acknowledgement without stopping to chat is appropriate.
Do you offer crisis sessions?
Wyld Counselling Therapy is not a crisis or emergency service. If you need to speak to someone immediately, please contact the emergency service on 999 or your GP, NHS 24 (08454 242424) or the Samaritans (08457 909090) or Lifeline Northern Ireland 0808 808 8000
I am going to be late, what do i do?
Our policy & contract notes any session that begins after the agreed time due to late client arrival for whatever reason cannot be extended beyond the agreed finish time. If you do not arrive or call within 15 minutes of the agreed appointment, this will be considered a cancellation. Full fee will be applied.
Can I book a session if you are also engaging with my partner, friend or family member?
No, unfortunately not. We cannot book anyone who is connected to actively engaging clients as this could cause a conflict of interest. If a conflict of interest is identified during your consultation or therapy, we will refer you to another professional who can remain neutral. This ensures objectivity and protects everyone's privacy. This policy is in place to maintain the highest ethical standards.
How do I know if we would be a good match?
Choosing the right counsellor is important because the quality of the relationship can have a significant impact on the success of counselling. A counsellor who makes you feel safe, respected, and understood can help you build trust, communicate openly, and work through challenges more effectively. One advantage of finding the right counsellor is that you are more likely to feel comfortable discussing personal issues and staying engaged in the process. However, a disadvantage is that it can take time to find someone whose approach, personality, and expertise suit your needs. If there is a poor match, you may feel uncomfortable, misunderstood, or less willing to participate, which can limit the benefits of counselling. Taking the time to choose the right counsellor can therefore improve both the counselling experience and the outcomes achieved. This is why consultations are so important to establish if we would be a good match to work as your needs are the priority.
